William “Bill” Treas

Bill Treas is a partner and founding member of the law firm of Nielsen & Treas, LLC. Mr. Treas runs the day to day operations of the firm and is the head of the litigation department. He has litigation experience in insurance defense, catastrophic claims, commercial property and insurance coverage. He has been involved in NFIP litigation for nearly two decades starting with cases stemming from Tropical Storm Allison of 2001. In addition, Mr. Treas has been involved in mass joinder cases and False Claims Act suits involving NFIP claims. In addition to his experience with the NFIP and property and casualty litigation, Nielsen & Treas also defends police officers in Section 1983 claims as the firm is general counsel to the Louisiana Police Chiefs Association.
Mr. Treas has litigated NFIP cases all over the country and has spoken at flood program conferences regarding the law governing the NFIP. He is admitted to practice in several courts including: the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Sixth Circuit, Eighth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and the Eleventh Circuit, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas, District of Colorado, Eastern District of Wisconsin, and all courts in Louisiana.
Mr. Treas is active in his community and donates his time and efforts to local organizations including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Knights of Columbus, and coaching youth basketball and baseball. He also is a classic car enthusiast and enjoys camping, hiking, backpacking, and tailgating at LSU football games. Mr. Treas has been married to his wife for almost 20 years and they have three boys.
